Collection: Pradeep Kumar

Pradeep Kumar (b. 1973) was born in Haryana, India. Deaf and unable to speak, doctors were quick to diagnose him as mentally handicapped with a low IQ. They later realized they had made a mistake and Kumar was equipped with a hearing aid so he could hear some sounds. His father worked hard to teach him letter sounds, and he started in a school, but he struggled to stay concentrated. Kumar sat at the back of the class and started to cut small figures out of blackboard chalk. Later, he started working with matches and made exotic birds and Indian-inspired people before coloring them. Kumar has learned that through his art he can express the words he is unable to say.
